A Proud America

(also posted in LiveJournal)

I wish I could say something profound and wise about what has just happened.
I am in awe. I am overwhelmed with amazement and pride.
It's been a long time since I felt proud to be an American. I listened and watched last night with rapture. I felt chills when Obama spoke. I felt proud. It's been a long time since a politicians words moved me as he did. For once, I believed him. For once I felt that now, here, today, there will be change. Like his symbols shows, a new day has dawned.

Listen to the world. Listen to the world rejoice. The entire world let out bated breath and cheered. The U.S. people spoke and the world agrees. It's astounding.

I'm so pleased it's such a clear victory. Look at the electoral votes. He won the popular vote too, (though we have to recognize that while slightly more that half voted for Obama, nearly half voted for McCain, but lets save such slaps of reality for another time).

I'm so pleased to witness this, to be a part of this, to know that one day this will be in history books. I predict Obama will be recognized alongside all other great presidents. I will hold off and all cynicism, all pessimism, all negative reality checks for just this moment. For a moment, I will simply hope. And I will be proud.
