Struan Hat

This is a beautiful hat; a compliment to the pattern writer, Ysolda, not to myself. I just adore the stitch pattern. It's so pretty.

Anyway, a real easy knit, though I made some mistake here and there and had to go back a few times. The most challenging part was the invisible cast on. And the most tedious was stitching the live rib stitches to into the hem.

Another problem I had was that I was so worried about it being too small, that I did not listen to Ysolda's warning about how it's supposed to be snug, and went up a needles size or two. It's not really a tight fitting hat, the way it's intended to be. It fits though. Not loose or anything like that. The only thing is, I don't think the pattern stitch stretches as much as it's supposed to, and hence the double layer of ribbing puffs out rather than stretching taut and flat. Lesson learned: trust Ysolda. :P

Eric's been dying to wear this hat. I worked on it late last night, stitching in the hem, but I was soooo tired. I felt bad that he could not wear it to work today, since it's sooooo cold, but he can wear it tomorrow now. I can't wait to show him when he gets home :D
