How do some people finish their projects so quickly? I've been working on the same pairs of socks since mid November! I'll be lucky to finish them by Christmas now. I had some other gifts I wanted to make, but I've given up on those because I know I won't get them done. :(
I read lots of people's blogs, and some of them, particularly the Yarn Harlot, complete projects so fast! I never thought I was a slow knitter. In fact, I think I get into a rather fast groove with my needles clicking away. So what's the deal?
Sometimes I don't think I have as much time to knit as other people, but then again, that's just a cop-out excuse. I am busy, with the substitute teaching during the day, and the tutoring in the afternoons, but that's not everyday. Sure there are the household chores like cleaning, laundry, cooking dinner and taking care of bills and paperwork and crap, but everyone does that! And I don't even have kids to take care of! I certainly don't have a social life anymore to keep me busy. So what's my problem? Why can't I get my knitting finished?
I think I might have some attention issues. I sit and knit for a bit, get up, go into the kitchen for a drink, sit and knit some more, stop to watch a scene on a show, knit some more, get up to check my email or other online accounts, knit some more, go and get something to eat.... and so on and so on. Think of all the rows I could have finished if I didn't get so distracted!
I really want to finish those darn socks! And not just because I need them done for Christmas gifts, but because I'm bored of them and want to start something else. I DO have attention issues, don't I?

here is a thought. The average sock can contain just as many stitches as a sweater. (I know my Hubby's Islander socks did) and since it does take a while to knit a sweater it should take a while to knit a pair of socks.
I also get into ruts where it seems I just keep knitting and I do not get any closer to the end.
I also find that when I get bored with something it takes a lot longer to finish, that is why I usually have several WIPs going on at one time. I get less bored so i can keep knitting on whichever longer.
=)
I totally agree with Qutecowgirl. I read in At Knit's End the other day that they average handknit sock (in like a fingering weight) has 17,000 stitches! So that's 34,000 for the the pair. Whoa. That should make you feel better.
We all have projects that feel like they're taking eternity to finish, too. ;) Don't worry--you're really not alone.
Sometimes I find a particular pattern can be too simple and boring and it takes forever to me. Other times something is "too tricky" and I have to focus on it too hard so it takes a long time to finish. You'll come to the end of them soon. Hang in there!
...Oh, and maybe do something else for a change of pace and go back to the socks? Sometimes if I'm feeling in a rut, I do something that finishes up quick like a hat or whatever and then when I return to the socks, they sort of fly. Worth a shot! :D Good luck!
